Musa acuminata is one of the parents of many of todays cultivars not least Musa cavendishi, the other being Musa balbisiana. Although the fruit looks like an ordinary yellow banana and is edible it has seed within the fruit. Not hardy, so will need to be under cover in the winter months with as much warmth as possible. Only water lightly when not in active growth.

Although the fruit looks like an ordinary yellow banana and is edible it has seed within the fruit. Not hardy, so will need to be under cover in the winter months with as much warmth as possible. Germination instructions

Special treatment to break dormancy. Soak seeds for 48 hrs and then sow in a sterile seed compost and cover with vermiculite. Daily temperature cycle - 9 hrs @ 30-35C, 15 hrs @ 12-15C. Germination 5 weeks to 3+ months, and then keep at 25C to 30C.
