From South Africa, an attractive tree with large pinnate leaves which have a reddish tinge on emerging.  The purple flowers are pea like and appear on large upright spikes.  Not hardy, so one really to try for its foliage in a jungle garden and then keep frost free over winter.

Seeds should be soaked in hot water for around 12 hours to aid germination which is usually fairly quick (2+ weeks) in a heated propagator set at around 20C to 25C.
