Diplolaena angustifolia (Yanchep Rose) is a small bushy shrub from Western Australia that grows to about 90cm tall. It has narrow olive-green leaves with dense rusty hairs on the underside. The 4cm wide pendant flowers appear in late winter through early spring - these have a double row of short greenish cream-coloured petal-like bracts and large brushes of pale orange stamens. Plant in well-drained soil in full sun to light shade with little irrigation. Not frost tolerant this unusual and showy plant can be used in containers in a cold frost free glasshouse.
Hard seed so soak for 24 hours then sow in a well drained sterile seed compost at a temp of 15C to 20C. Germination can take 4 to 8 weeks. Plants usually flower in their second year.
