From Central America, Columbia and Mexico, this Diospyros can grow to over 20m in its native habitat but smaller in the UK. Fruits are produced from around 3 years onwards and are around 7cms in size. Ripe fruits are often said to taste like chocolate puddings! Will take a light frost when larger but best to protect over winter unless in a mild microclimate.
