Chenopodium giganteum is a vigorous attractive and valuable annual for borders, with purple and lush green foliage. Young leaves can be cooked and eaten tasting of spinach or eaten raw. This is a tall plant (up to 1.8m), giving a colourful display, with smooth stems striped red and green, producing large leaves of a brilliant magenta colour, covered when young with a red crystalline powder, and bearing long spikes of tiny reddish flowers. Self seeds around once established.
