The black turtle bean is very easy to grow in a well-prepared soil, and they’re a fibre-packed, heart-healthy staple diet in many ethnic dishes. Grow just like dwarf beans although these grow to about 60cm tall and would benefit from some twigs or other supports as in growing peas. Leave in the sun to fully dry and only harvest once the beans turn black. Black beans are so versatile, you can enjoy them in many recipes in place of red or pinto beans. They’re great in chilis or stews, and are delicious in rice and bean recipes, as well as burritos and enchiladas. The Black Bean has lovely purple flowers.
