A slender, deciduous shrub from South Africa, usually treated as an annual as it is quick and easy to grow. Best pinched out at the 5th leaf stage to encourage branching, the stems then produce insignificant flowers that magically transform into unusual translucent, soft, spiny balls.

Germination instructions

Sow seed in a well draining seed compost with a fine covering at a temperature of 18C to 20C. Germination 2 to 3 weeks then prick out with plenty of air to avoid damping off.
